Staff is warm, knowledgable, welcoming. Hotel is cutting edge design, green, comfortable, fun. Lounge/restaurant wonderful atmosphere and food. Very convenient location - a bit edgy/urban but safe. It is now my favorite SF hotel and I'm telling all my friends to stay there. Parking and breakfast by the pool included in the room rate - how can you beat that !?!
I liked our room, it was spacious and comfortable. The courtyard was pleasant. I liked the artistic tile work in the pool. The accompanying lounge (Chambers) was perfect for late-night cocktails.
The magnetic card reader for our room access was not 100% reliable.
Hotel Phoenix suited us - 2 adults and an 11-year-old child - very well. The combination of central location, reasonable price, quirky charm and facilities offered (breakfast, parking, pool, bar and wifi) meant that it had everything we wanted for a two-day stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and the pool, though small, was lovely. The short walks to Union Square and Market Street meant that we were well placed for seeing the city on foot and by bus. We would certainly stay there again.
Better breakfast coffee and bigger towels would have been nice. A set of weighing scales to help people packing to fly would have been useful.
I liked the friendly and helpful staff , well done Phoenix hotel .
Retro feel and good front-desk service
Noisy, noisy, noisy...swimmers and partyers in courtyard were loud until after midnight.
Hotel itself was nice! Staff was friendly.
Very expensive stay! Breakfast was a muffin and a cup of coffee. No safe! Poor wifi! In the middle of the tenderloin district, a lot of homeless people around the hotel! It was a strange/unsafe feeling to walk around the hotel when dark!
Very friendly staff, lovely courtyard and yummy vietnamese sandwich shops nearby
The bar staff, especially Felipe and Richard, were very friendly and welcoming, pulling a stool up at the bar for me to join them for a conversation when I ordered a beer by myself on my first night. Also, they gave me good pointers for restaurants & bars in area. The receptionists were also quite helpful and friendly. While some facilities are somewhat outdated, there is a nice vibe to this place & might return if back in SF.
TVs could use a TV menu; shower power not great
The artwork in the courtyard, and the restaurant that was part of the hotel
The location ~ we could walk anywhere we wanted to go.
The location ~ the immediate neighborhood is not great. Though I expected a "retro" feel to the room, I was hoping for better beds & linens.
Friendly staff, reasonable location
quite bad environment judging by the population surrounding the area
The photos online are very professional and give the impression of a hi-end hip hotel of the boutique variety. Not true. This is a 60-style courtyard motel with huge plate glass windows in every room that expose you to the courtyard. They've tried putting in some higher-end finishes to the rooms (linens, toiletries, etc) but in the end, this is a pretty downmarket experience. With some TLC and $$, they could make this what it aspires to be, but currently, it is not a comfortable, quiet, restful experience.
There are off-putting sculptures and bric-a-brac that they should remove. The breakfast bar is a pot of coffee and three muffins. They're clearly trying to frame it into a hip destination (the online photos are gorgeous) but they've got some major things working against them: there is no lounge, no lobby (of the hang-out variety), there are too many broken down elements (bedside outlet didn't work) and in the end, I'd recommend you not stay here unless you're a college student.
Orlando! From the minute we walked in the door he made me, my wife, and 2 teenage boys, feel not only welcomed, but completely comfortable and we knew we'd be well taken care of for our stay! Seriously, I can't give enough props and kudos for this gem of an employee you have! My only ask is that next time we stay there, he better be there!! If he's up for a bonus or promotion of any kind consider this a solid recommendation from a outside 3rd party!
None, rooms were great, food was great, and we had an awesome stay all around.
The staff were great - very friendly and very helpful.
The hotel is surrounded by gangs, drug dealers, prositiutes, homeless people, drunks and drug addicts. Quite the walk home. An overpriced motel in a bad neighbourhood,
it would be nice to have a small bar at the hotel
